Energy Assessment

Background/Improving Energy Efficiency

Did you know that buildings produce nearly half of the UK’s carbon emissions?
The way a building is constructed, insulated, heated, ventilated and the type of fuel used, all contribute to its’ carbon output.
Over the next few years, the market will need thousands of Energy Assessors for   both domestic dwellings, new and old, as well as for all commercial buildings.  Even now, if you are buying or selling a home, you need a certificate by law.  By October 2008, all buildings, whether they are built, sold or rented out, will require one.

EPCs – Energy Performance of Buildings

Energy Performance Certificates (EPCS) are now being introduced to help improve the energy efficiency in buildings. In the future, these certificates will have to be made available every time a building is constructed, sold or rented.

EPCS provide ‘A’ to ‘G’ ratings for a building, with ‘A’ being the most energy efficient (relatively low running costs) to ‘G’ being the least efficient (relatively high running costs).  The current average to date is a ‘D’ rating.

This certificate is part of a series of measures, being introduced across Europe, to reflect legislation, which will help reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change.
Here at Blue Flag ®, trained and accredited Energy Assessors are able to produce EPCS, alongside an associated report, to suggest improvements which would make a particular property more energy efficient.  The EPC will also give recommendations for any necessary improvements, and will suggest ways in which to cut fuel bills and save money.
Assessors visit the property and collect the ‘required’ information, including the type of heating system, windows, construction type and the date in which the property was built.
The information is then gathered and generates an EPC which will rate the property as detailed in ‘A’ to ‘G’ above.
An EPC will only take approximately 1 hour to complete and the certificate will then be forwarded to the client within approximately 5 days. Larger properties may take longer to assess, it must be pointed out.

Services

Blue Flag ® Assessors can provide the information required, in line with the above details, for both Domestic and Commercial Energy Assessment.
